ONC has provided grants to community colleges to provide non-degree health information technology training that can be completed in six months or less.

Competency Examination Program

These competency examinations will enable health IT professionals, employers, and other stakeholders to assess their own health IT competency levels or the competency of their health IT staff members, as appropriate. The examinations may also be used by employers to identify training gaps and personnel needs integral to achieving meaningful use of electronic health information.

Program of Assistance for University-Based Training

ONC has provided grants to rapidly and sustainably increase the availability of individuals qualified to serve in specific health IT professional roles requiring university-level training.

Training is provided by the University Partnership for Health Informatics (UP-HI) in Minnesota. UP-HI is a partnership between the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, University of Minnesota Crookston and College of St. Scholastica.

REACH Practicum Experience

REACH offers students enrolled in any of the community college-based or university-based programs funded through these federally funded workforce training grants are eligible to register for a potential placement into a practicum experience within the REACH program (regional HIT extension center) serving Minnesota and North Dakota.
