Hospitals, Meaningful Use, and Quality Reporting: The Road (map) Ahead

The road to meeting Meaningful Use and achieving CMS incentive dollars will not be an easy task for any hospital or clinic. This webinar will provide an overview of the REACH's roadmap for successfully implementing Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems in Critical Access and small hospitals. Additionally, the webinar will dive into the Meaningful Use requirements for (and barriers to) reporting clinical quality measures in Stage 1.

Objectives

Participants will understand:

  1. Meaningful Use requirements for hospitals;
  2. REACH’s roadmap for providing technical assistance to hospitals, including knowledge about its hospital EHR toolkit.
    1. Best practices for adopting EHR systems, utilizing systems for performance improvement, and exchanging health information;
  3. The challenges associated with meeting the quality reporting requirements of meaningful use in hospitals.

Speakers

Sue Severson, CPEHR, CPHIT, Director, Health Information Technology Services, Stratis Health, and Program Director, REACH

Stratis Health’s Director of Health Information Technology Services, Sue Severson, is experienced in leading the successful adoption of health IT in a variety of settings. Ms. Severson has worked with nearly 100 clinics and is proficient in all aspects of EHR adoption. She provides specific expertise in workflow analysis and redesign. She is devoted to and responsible for Stratis Health’s growing portfolio of health IT service offerings. She has more than 13 years of experience in health care, with special focus on clinical process improvement in the ambulatory and hospital settings.

Ryan H. Sandefer, MA, CPHIT is Research Coordinator for the Center for Healthcare Innovation at the College of St. Scholastica, which is a national leader in using certified electronic health record technology within undergraduate and graduate education. Ryan is a project coordinator for the REACH program. Ryan has been working with health information technology and electronic health records in hospitals for the past five years. His experience includes implementing EHRs and associated technologies, workflow process mapping and redesign, researching the impact of HIT on care delivery, and developing telehealth networks.
